Junior Surfing Development Luncheon - Burleigh Heads

As part of Merton Lawyers’ commitment to being a leader amongst the communities in which we operate, on 9 February 2024 we partnered with the Burleigh Boardriders Club and the Tropic to raise funds for Gold Coast Junior Surfing at the Junior Surfing Development Luncheon. The 2032 Summer Olympic Games will be held in Brisbane, Queensland. This means it is highly likely the surfing event will be held at one the Gold Coast’s famous point breaks – possible even our ‘local’ Burleigh Heads!

2012 World Surfing Champion Joel Parkinson hosted the event with rugby league immortal Andrew Johns. An afternoon of high level sports chat and networking was had by all with Huey (the surf god) even putting on an incredible show of pumping waves and great weather on sunset. Everyone at the event was very close to downing tools to get our amongst the surf break – it was only the fantastic food and incredible hospitality of the Tropic restaurant that kept all guests seated. We look forward to continuing our support for the Burleigh Heads Boardriders and local causes on the Gold Coast.

Cofounder Agreements: the most underrated document in the startup ecosystem

Cofounder agreements are perhaps the most underrated document in the startup ecosystem.

It is not uncommon for a startup to be reluctant to spend money on lawyers in the early stages. Why spend money on drafting agreements when there isn’t any money coming in yet?

But antagonism between cofounders can be the difference between the failure or success of your startup. According to Noam Wassermann, author of The Founder’s Dilemma, 65% of startups fail due to founder conflict.

That’s where a cofounder agreement comes in.

This webinar provided the opportunity to hear from some interesting innovators that Dairy Australia and SVG Thrive (Dairy Australia’s Innovation partner) have seen both domestically and globally that may have applicability to your business. Whilst Dairy Australia and SVG Thrive have reviewed these organisations, please note you will need to conduct your own due diligence to determine if any of the technology solutions presented are suitable for your own business.
