The Year in Review: 2022

While we begin to wind down and tie up before the holiday period, we’re looking back at an incredible 2022. It’s been a year of great achievement, connection and celebration.

Nedd’s Record Run*

Throughout September and October, the country was captivated by a young tradie from Sydney.

Over 47 days, he completed triumph after triumph. Nedd set out to run 3,950kms from Cottesloe Beach, Western Australia, to Bondi Beach, New South Whales, pointing all the attention he garnered to Nedd's Record Run. It was an attempt at a world record, but above all else, a call for change by raising money for Australian ACNC Registered Charity, We Are Mobilise. We Are Mobilise's mission is to help those experiencing homelessness by facilitating connections for change across the nation.

Merton Lawyers were a proud sponsor of Nedd's Record Run. As a firm that loves a challenge and is passionate about helping others, it was a no-brainer to support Nedd as he completed his mission. Some of our team were there to meet him at Bondi Beach to cheer the finish of a one-in-a-lifetime victory.

Events*

Connecting with our community never gets old. It was a fantastic year getting back into the community's embrace and attending live events, from pitch parties, presentations, and forums, to milestone celebrations and networking events.

In November, we partnered with Investment NSW and started the Sunrise celebrations early. We welcomed clients and friends from the tech and investment community to the Dolphin Hotel in Sydney. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect, celebrate and listen to founders and investors talk passionately about their plans for the future.

We look forward to hosting and attending more events throughout 2023.

Partners*

It’s been an exciting year for our partners at The Brewers Lunch. The informal networking event is growing year upon year and only aiming higher. Throughout 2022 they hosted 1,500 guests and raised over $130,000 for 11 charity partners. It’s all thanks to everyone who generously supported the events and played a crucial role in bringing The Brewers Lunch networking functions to life. We look forward to seeing you at the next event in 2023!

Merton Lawyers were proud to be an official Partner of the Pause Awards 5th edition, bigger and better than ever. Fifty ambitious winners gained recognition for their innovative thinking and passionate response to some of society's biggest challenges. Our shared goal of honouring business excellence, performance and effectiveness applauds big thinkers and daring teams but also measures the progress and success of Australia's ecosystem.

Over the last 12 months, Merton Lawyers have advised the leaders of the Mangala community to assist them in combatting and raising awareness of this threat to their community and traditional customs. In September, we got to view their documentary, Fighting Giants, highlighting the threat of fracking in the Kimberley, WA.

Awards*

In June, Merton Lawyers were excited to announce that 2 of our partners were finalists across 5 different categories in the Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards 2022. Julian Barclay was nominated in 4 categories, Corporate, Commercial, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Wellness Advocate. Anthony Curtin was a finalist in the Innovator category and shortly after, he was named an Innovator of the Year finalist in the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards 2022.

It was incredible to see our seniors nominated with other high-achieving professionals across 34 categories. Merton Lawyers are proud to see both Anthony and Julian’s achievements celebrated.

From the Merton Lawyers family to yours. Merry Christmas and thank you for making 2022 one of the best yet. We wish you a happy and safe holiday and look forward to working with you in 2023.
