The Month in Review: May
While our Melbourne team finished the month working from home, May was bursting with excitement here at Merton Lawyers.
Pangea: Global Surgery Day
Pangea Global Health Education were also hosted and honoured at Government House by Governor The Honourable Linda Dessau AC and Mr Tony Howard AM QC. Celebrating Global Surgery Day on the 25th of May; aiming to spread awareness regarding the inequity in surgical access and outcomes for patients around the world. Anthony Curtin is also a director at Pangea and clients of Merton Lawyers were invited to Government House, to celebrate and recognise Pangeas efforts to improve surgical outcomes in low and middle income countries.
Employees vs Contractors and the Gig Economy
Managing partner, Anthony Curtin returned to host another free event in collaboration with Hub Australia and Legally Yours. Offering guidance and considerations for every start up founder and business owner. Anthony also discussed the risks of engaging a prospective employee or contractor under an incorrect structure; the key terms of employment agreements; how to protect your intellectual property; the practicalities of implementing a share scheme; and how best to mitigate a fair work claim made against you.
The Brewers Lunch
We had the pleasure of attending The Brewers Lunch. Hosted at Melbourne Cellar Door and hydrated by Your Mates Brewing Co. An informal networking event connecting professionals and supporting a chosen charity. An afternoon of craft beer, comedy & an auction for this quarters recipient, The Ronald McDonald House.
500 Supporters
The 500 Supporters Group, a cornerstone donor for the Ruben Centre, had an exciting return. Welcoming supporters back to the ‘G for their official 2021 AFL Lunch. Merton Lawyers have been donors to the 500 Supporters Club over the past 3 years and had the pleasure of attending alongside some clients. The function was enjoyed at the MCC and with special guests Stephen Kernahan & Chris Judd.
