The Month in Review: October
October was all about transition. Our Victoria team are moving away from virtual life and back to what we do best, connecting with each other and our clients.
Merton Lawyers Private
Our family is here to help yours. This month, we introduced Merton Lawyers Private.
We understand that life's most pivotal moments can often be the most challenging. Our private clients services provide individuals and families clarity and certainty through those significant life changes. It’a new look, but the same Merton Lawyers qualities you know and trust.
Legally Yours
Managing Director, David Rennex, sat down with Karen Finch from Legally Yours to discuss the story behind why and how he, and co-founder Anthony Curtin, launched one of the fastest growing legal practices in Australia. What we know to be, Merton Lawyers. Dave is available for consultations and advice for all commercial litigation, property law, and building and construction matters. If you need assistance, reach out to our team below.
SolarBuddy
We celebrated International Day of the Girl 2021 with SolarBuddy, who are doing incredible work to transform the lives of girls throughout Tanzania. They are faced with many challenges being both young and female, SolarBuddy is working hard to remove those obstacles and provide educational assistance. Donations can still be made by visiting the link below.
eBrief Ready
We made the switch to being an eBrief Ready law firm, with a steady hand on security, collaboration, and efficiency, and a conscious mind so we can reduce our impact on the environment.
ML: What is your role?
IH: I’m a lawyer in the Corporate Team.
ML: How long have you been at Merton Lawyers?
IH: I started with ML at the beginning of 2019.
ML: What does a typical day look like for you?
IH: Every day starts with a coffee.
Followed by a review of emails, the day’s calendar and my to-do list. Then we have a short toolbox meeting to go over tasks, deliverables and issues which need to be addressed for the day. Then it is usually onto the phone, into meetings or video conferences and onto the to-do list.
ML: What is your favourite aspect about Merton Lawyers?
IH: Every day I get to work with a fantastic group of people.
ML: Describe yourself in 1 word.
IH: I think this is the hardest question here, it feels like it is somewhere between a job interview that’s going wrong or an ice-breaker game where you haven’t had the last four people to prepare your answer.
In short, I’d say ‘action-oriented’ providing that hyphenating two words still counts as one word.
ML: If you won the lottery what is the first thing you would do?
IH: Depending upon the size of the win, I’d either be driving a Porsche 911 (930) Turbo to the office or I would be having a parma and pint at the Elgin Hotel.
ML: What is something you have recently learnt?
IH: Good question. I recently watched a lecture which was delivered at MIT on the flight controls of the F-22 Raptor. During the lecture, it was explained how the control surfaces operate independently to balance the force loading across the wing-span which means the aircraft can turn at a higher rate of “G” than the airframe could otherwise sustain.
ML: A recommendation we should try/listen/watch?
IH: I have quite a few. I really enjoyed Vigil, Squid Game and Ted Lasso. I’m currently keeping up with Succession and looking forward to the new season of Yellowstone.
ML: If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose??
IH: Oh, good question. There are many good options. But, probably Jake Peralta.
ML: Would you rather be the funniest or smartest person in a room? Why?
IH: I have always figured that if you are the smartest person in the room – you are in the wrong room. So, I have to go with funniest – but even then, wouldn’t that just mean the rest of the room is boring?
