September was a jam packed month with no shortage of inspiration and determination.
Nedd’s Record Run
3, 2, 1, lessgo!
Today, Friday September 30th, marks day 30 of Nedd’s Record Run. An incredible triumph and an astounding trip from Cottesloe Beach, WA to Bondi Beach, NSW.
There has been huge milestones and achievement throughout the last month but Nedd has also endured toughness like none other. The physical and mental hurdles arise, but each time Nedd has somehow found a way to put one foot in front of the other.
On September 17th he finished his run across Western Australia and entered South Australia to face the Nullarbor. As Hamish Blake commented recently “This is anything but Nullarboring". Now he is nearing the end of the SA leg and embarking into NSW territory in just a few days time.
Nedd is completing this incredible run to raise money and awareness for homelessness in Australia. Something 116,000 Australians are facing. His goal is to reach $1 million for We Are Mobilise.

Birchal Join The Crowd
The team at Merton Lawyers have proudly worked with Birchal over the last few years, and for many of the incredible founders we’ve worked with, equity crowdfunding has been an awesome avenue for them to raise capital for their growing companies.

The Brewers Lunch Gold Coast Edition
The Brewers Lunch welcomed 130 guests to Glasshouse Gold Coast on the 23rd of September for another successful networking event. They raised an incredible $11,000 for the event charity partner Gold Coast Hospital Foundation! Bringing the total raised for charity by The Brewers Lunch - networking events in 2022 close to $85,000!
The Brewers Lunch is an informal networking event aimed at bringing together directors, professionals, business owners, executives, BD managers and similar for an afternoon of professional networking, craft beers, good food and live comedy whilst raising money for worthy causes. Fintech & Insurtech Going Global Program
This month, co-managing Partner Anthony Curtin and Merton Lawyers Partner Julian Barclay presented to NSW Investment Fintech and Insurtech Going Global Program participants.
They were joined by an impressive lineup of guest speakers including Katie Heathcote, Associate Director at Technology Exports at Investment NSW, Dan Silver, COO at Stake, Melissa Widner, CEO at Lighter Capital and Scott Heyes, CFO at Mendoza Ventures.
This was an opportunity for participants to learn about the US fundraising processes, finance models and investor expectations. Anthony and Julian shared their expertise on the legal and practical considerations when expanding to the US.
Surf Coast Pitch Party
Ripple Surf Coast hosted its second Pitch Party at the start of September, welcoming over 100 members of the Surf Coast and Melbourne community who cheered the pitching businesses.
The panellists of the night were Simon Wright from InterValley Ventures, Matt Vitale from Birchal Crowdfunding, Mariam Issa, Chad Stephens from 1Form.com and Gretchen Gibson from the Surf Coast Shire Council.
There are some exciting impact businesses emerging from the Surf Coast and it was inspiring to see them in action on the night. A very big congratulations to the winners Marjory from Dash G. Gym and Wellbeing
and Karen Monaghan & Hamish from Our Kinds.
Fighting Giants
Members of the Merton team were invited to a screening of Fighting Giants – a documentary highlighting the threat of fracking in the Kimberley, WA.
Over the last 12 months, Merton Lawyers have advised the leaders of the Mangala community to assist them in combatting and raising awareness of this threat to their community and traditional customs.
Fighting Giants will be screening in Melbourne towards the end of November. We encourage everyone to preview and support the traditional owners of this initiative.
