Feature Article: ‘Navigating Funding in 2022’ with Anthony Curtin from Merton Lawyers

Co-managing Partner, Anthony Curtin, sat down with Andrew Tiganis from Legally Yours to do a Q&A relatng to his successful Navigating Funding in 2022 presentation.

AT: What advice do you have for founders navigating the ‘new order’ of funding?

AC: My biggest piece of advice to Founders seeking investment today is to be extremely prepared and realistic when going through the process.

It is an ‘investor market’ right now, and Founders need to be prepared to be heavily scrutinised by investors, particularly when it comes to the value of their business.

This might mean reassessing valuations, considering a ‘down round’, and asking themselves hard questions like ‘am I really investor ready?’ and ‘do I really need investment right now?’.

Founders should also have well prepared Data Rooms and have completed thorough due diligence before reaching out to investors.

I highly recommend Founders seek honest feedback from their trusted advisors before heading down the investment track, and be prepared to accept some ‘tough love’.

I have learned so much from all of the people I have come into contact with through te prize and people started to take my ideas more seriously.

Tractor Ventures are leaders in their field, helping Australian and New Zealand technology companies scale properly.

They addressed the questions founders and startups often ask themselves. What is the right way for you to scale your companies growth? When is the right time to fundraise? Where should I efficiently allocate that capital in this game of operating a tech company? What should I consider when thinking of debt or equity funding?
